Why do we serve?

  1. We SERVE out of graditude for what Jesus has done for us.
  2. We SERVE as an expression of the spiritual gifts God has given us.
  3. We SERVE as part of God’s plan for growing His church.
  4. We SERVE so that we are givers and not just takers.
  5. We SERVE to be part of something bigger than ourselves that will make a difference for eternity.

True fulfillment will never come through self-gratification.

Self-gratification will never lead to the fullness of life that you are looking for.  It will lead to emptiness and self-destruction.  And along the way, you will destroy other people.

We all want to get to the top…but Jesus said the way to the top in His Kingdom is to become a faithful servant to the Father and a humble servant to one another.

1 Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

I love this verse because there is so much wrapped up in there…

When I think of that it takes me back to the play ground in Elementary School…when it was time for P.E.  Undoubtedly, the two people that would get picked as captains would be two of the best athletes and then the pecking order would begin…all the best people would be picked until the last one…that last person would usually be the least athletic person on the field and week after week would be that last one chosen…

I think I’m bringing back memories for some of you.

But you are a CHOSEN PEOPLE…a royal priesthood, a holy nation…a people belonging to God…

Can I tell you this today…that you are a CHOSEN PEOPLE…God chose you…you aren’t the last on the team…but even if you were it would be because God chose you…

Being chosen is that very thing that makes you remarkable.

When you begin to see yourself as someone that God has hand-picked…someone He chose…it all of the sudden begins to transform your attitude.

Look at your self in the mirror today and say, “God Chose Me”

Now come on…say it with some attitude…”God Chose Me”

One thing that makes you remarkable is that you are chosen.

I recorded some thoughts about tonight’s prayer meeting. See you there at 6:30 pm

Posted up some pictures and thoughts from this Sunday over on my blog.  Check out 11-09-08 Sunday Slideshow.

Reason I have to do the pictures there is that this blog doesn’t allow me the ability to post up the slideshow from Picasa.

Every Sunday hundreds of thousands of people around the world will visit a church for the first time ever…or maybe even the first time in a very long time. In fact, each week that is one thing you can count on at the 5 Points Campus. Each week we have families that are looking for a church or who have been invited and are there as our guests.

This takes a mind-shift for all of us. In fact, this is where our whole campus needs to take a shift.  Whether you are a musician, greeter, children’s worker, sound tech, parking…in fact, no matter what you do at our campus, even if you come and just enjoy our environment, you must realize that we must put our best for all of our guests.

At our home if someone were to just drop by they would probably not even know that it were dirty because we keep it pretty clean.  But when we know we are going to have guests all of us get involved in making our home ready for them.

How many of you, when you know that guests are coming over, go the extra mile to clean your house?  If you are like us, you go all out…everything is vacuumed, scrubbed, mowed, edged…if you are serving food you probably make us the good dishes that you only use if guests are coming.  And especially the bathroom is cleaned.  Why do you do this???  Because your guests matter to you.

That is what all of us need to realize.  Every Sunday morning the most important people are those who are there for the first time.  If you have been at the campus for any amount of time take a few minutes and look for someone you don’t know and introduce yourself and make them feel welcome.  If you are one of the ones that are truly making it happen realize that each Sunday guests are coming and let’s do whatever it takes to make them welcome.

Look for more posts coming this week on this topic.
